OPEN HOUSE

A big thank you to all the students and parents that were able to attend the open house last night. We thank you so very much. There is nothing better than a classroom full of involved parents! I heard from many of you that you would be interested in math help, so I will post the Everyday Mathematics website on this blog, as well as information as we go to help you out. Check out the right hand side of the blog for links.

My hope is that this will serve as a communication tool between you and us. We hope to update it weekly with the happenings in the classroom. Subscribe to the RSS feed, and you can get automatic updates.

Let me know what we can do for you!

Mrs. Wakefield will be back on Tuesday, so the kids will start their usual schedule.

Next week we will be working on the following items:

Math: Stations on Monday as we have a sub, starting Unit 2 in math on Tuesday or Wednesday. Unit 2 deals with estimation and computation.

Social Studies: We will have a test on Monday on unit 1 and then will be getting to know our Aztec history a little better with some videos and activities. Mrs. Wakefield will also use this time to get to know the students a little better.

No science until September 28 when they will go to Mr. Bunker for a 3-week journey into science!

We are reading an American Indian novel right now called "Children of the Longhouse." I will post some resources for you on this blog.

We just started Mountain Language this week, and will continue to do that every week in 5th grade. It is a repetitious program that will benefit all of the students in basic language skills. We will also be working on complete sentences in our writing. We hope to get all students journaling more often.

We are taking spelling lesson 5 test today, so next week we will be on lessons 6-10. We take tests on every multiple of 5: 5, 10, 15, 20, etc. Expect one test a week as well as one additional assignment a week. I will post the spelling words as well as the assignment today for next week, so keep an eye out.

Please contact us with your questions!
